South Africa seems to be my most visited country this year with shoot after shoot. This time, I was shooting for USC’s 12 month stills campaign. Shooting a cross season campaign brings it’s own set of challenges, especially when it comes to the aesthetics. When creatively producing the concept for the campaign, we had to of course consider the brands past and current DNA as well as elevating it forward into 2015. Crossing over 2 seasons meant we had to almost remove the environment from any concept allowing the images to cross over seasons and years. This took us to this cool American Diner about 1 hour outside of Cape Town.
With the best production team I could have asked for behind me, we all got stuck in and produced an amazing result. Sure we had the standard issues all of us photographers face… mixed color temps, lighting changes etc etc but it all came together perfectly.
I shot this campaign on my Phase One IQ160 using 6k, 4k and 2.5k HMI fresnel lights, a system I am growing to love for stills projects. For any more technical questions, just ask away in the comments and I’ll answer the best I can.
